Four of us recently flew to the northern island of Hokkaido, as its renowned for its perfect skiing conditions. Unfortunately it hadn't snowed for a few days and the mountain comprised ice & slush. A booking error allowing us to upgrade our room to one with a ryokan (pictured right) and the delicous local food was some compensation.
